Oh, and all the characters you see? Totally fictional. You play as Chris, a badass hitman from 2082 who’s struggling with dissociative identity disorder. Somehow, he gets dragged into this crazy, trippy place called the Liminal Vortex Realm (LVR) — think of a twisted, broken reality.
Turns out, when LVR’s walls got torn open, some creepy interdimensional anti-troops showed up and now they’re after Chris for reasons no one really understands. So now, while trying to survive and get out, Chris starts digging into some dark secrets from his own past.
Ethereal Abyss’s vibe is unreal — it mixes super realistic graphics with retro touches, has creepy sound design that’ll keep you on edge and throws in some mind-bending puzzles. You’ll have to collect supplies and tools if you want to make it out alive, and there’s an inventory system that makes you think hard about how to use what you’ve got.
Chris has this insane gadget that lets him reverse time on certain objects, and thanks to his split personality, he can literally swap identities to access areas his body can’t reach — yeah, it’s wild.
As for enemies? Trust me, the anti troops will not give you a break — they are out to kill you, so be ready to fight. Plus you will need to solve some tricky puzzles to unlock the way out. Oh, and about what else might be lurking there?
Honestly… no one knows. If you’re into The Backrooms lore, this whole thing is based on Level 0 — the office spaces, so expect that creepy, endless office vibe that’ll mess with your head.
